BUYING GUIDE

How to choose a coffee grinder

A good grinder matters as much as the espresso machine. These are the four things we look at when helping Melbourne customers choose.

Burr size and type

Larger burrs grind faster and run cooler. 50 to 55 mm suits most homes, 65 mm and above suits heavy use. Flat burrs give clarity, conical burrs are forgiving.

Grind by weight

Grind-by-weight models such as the Mignon Libra, Stark W and Atom W stop at the dose you set, which helps with repeatable shots.

On demand or single dose

On-demand grinders hold beans in a hopper. Single dose grinders such as the Mignon Single Dose and Zeus suit people who change beans often.

Servicing and burrs

Burrs wear with use. We service and repair grinders in Melbourne and can replace burrs when grind quality drops.

FAQ

Coffee grinder questions

Semi-professional grinders, such as the Eureka Mignon range, are compact and designed for home and small office use. Professional grinders have larger burrs and stronger motors for cafes and high-volume use.

Yes. We service and repair espresso grinders and machines at our Melbourne store, including burr replacement and grind adjustment problems. See our servicing and repairs page for details.

Grind-by-weight grinders weigh the coffee as it is ground and stop at your target dose. This reduces waste and gives more repeatable shots than timed dosing.

For home espresso, 50 to 55 mm burrs are plenty. 65 mm burrs grind faster and suit heavier use. 75 to 85 mm burrs are for busy cafes and offices.

On many Eureka models black and white are the same price and chrome costs a little more. Choose your colour on the product page to see the exact price.
